Students choosing programmes
Programmes differ as much in how they are taught as in what they teach. Cohort-based, lab-based, independent, competitive, cumulative. A Compass reading helps a student see which settings will feel natural, so they can choose with their eyes open.
What the reading says
Each direction page has a section on what that direction looks like at school. High East tends to thrive in cohort programmes and group work; high West in research and technical programmes; high South in long cumulative degrees; high North in open-ended, project-heavy ones.
What the reading does not say
It does not say what a student should study, and it does not say what they can or cannot do. Every profile has succeeded in every field. The point is to know what will feel easy and to plan for what will not.
Scholarship applications
Many scholarships reward a specific kind of story: leadership, service, perseverance, academic rigour. The four directions map neatly onto those stories, which makes it easier to pick the awards where a student's real strengths will read well.
For parents
A reading is most useful as the start of a conversation, not as a label. The Scholar Quest version is written to be read together.
